Cowboys VP Will McClay said undersized running back Deuce Vaughn can "make plays in space" and can be a "specialty piece" in and NFL game that is changing
The selection of Vaughn (5'5/179) was one of the more discussed selections during the 2023 NFL Draft, with some suggesting it was a wasted pick. To hear McClay speak on the selection suggests they Cowboys envision a hybrid role for the diminutive back from wildcat plays, receptions in space and even the suggestion that he can run between the tackles. Vaughn's father is a scout for the Cowboys and that certainly factored into the equation, but the younger Vaughn is not without a dynamic skillset and it will be intriguing to see how the Cowboys work him into their offense. Deuce Vaugh is very sparsely ranked as DLF's RB82.

The Dallas Cowboys drafted Kansas State running back Deuce Vaughn in the sixth round of the NFL Draft.
Vaughn is criminally undersized and will now have to battle the likes of Malik Davis and Rico Dowdle for a spot on the team. Make no mistake, though. Vaughn is super tough, quick, strong and most of all, productive. If the Cowboys can find some creative ways to get the ball in his hands, he'll be worthy of a pick in the fourth round of rookie drafts. He reminds many of another former (and smaller) K-State running back in the form of Darren Sproles. That alone is intriguing enough to pique some interest.
