David Montgomery suffered a lower-leg injury during Thursday's practice and did not return.
The injury was suffered during individual drills and was non-contact. The report hasn't been picked up by major media as of yet and there has been no further update as to his condition or the severity of the injury. That could be good news or bad news and we'll have to wait and see what emerges today. Listed as DLF's RB28, Montgomery's dynasty value took a hit when the team drafted Jahmyr Gibbs, but rose following the team's trade of DeAndre Swift. If Montgomery were to miss significant time, it would be an obvious boost to the value of Gibbs.

The Lions have signed David Montgomery to a three-year deal worth $18 million, with $11 million guaranteed.
Yes, that's $11 million guaranteed. The noise you just heard was your neighbor (a D'Andre Swift truther) throwing his shoe against the wall. The Lions have said all off-season that they were uncomfortable making the explosive swift a true bell cow ball carrier and this proves they weren't messing around. The move likely indicates Jamaal Williams will be finding a new home as well. Considering Williams had 17 rushing touchdowns, it's fair to say Montgomery should be able to hold on to his RB25 ranking or even see it rise a touch.

ESPN listed David Montgomery as one of the most overrated free agents
According to NFL Next Gen Stats referenced in the attached link, Montgomery has been a poor runner for three of the last four years and was far less effective than the rising Khalil Herbert. Now a free agent, all expectations are for Montgomery to move on and for Herbert to be handed the starting role. Multiple teams have need at the position but we'd caution dynasty owners to sit on their hands before assessing Montgomery's prospects, at least until after the NFL Draft in late April. Entering his age-26 season, he still profiles as a potential workhorse back but in the second half of his career could face greater committee pressure in his next situation. He's listed as DLF's RB24.

David Montgomery is a free agent in 2023
Montgomery is entering his age-26 season and while he remained healthy and had bouts of production, the Bears anemic passing attack, when combined with Justin Fields' rushing prowess, pushed the capable running back into the background. The Bears could seek to lock up Montgomery for the long term but with upside-capable back Khalil Herbert seemingly similar to Montgomery, the greater likelihood is for the veteran to move onto greener pastures. Found as DLF's RB24, Montgomery presents as a value-potential back with upside in the right system but will be a risk-on acquisition at any time prior to knowing where he will play in 2023.
