The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Georgia tight end Darnell Washington in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
It's a solid pick for Pittsburgh as they can have Washington learn and develop behind Pat Freiermuth. Washington is a super raw prospect but his frame and athletic ability just scream "boom or bust." Dynasty owners who have some courage will likely look at Washington in the third round of rookie drafts this Spring as a developmental project but one with a lot of talent as well.

Darnell Washington ran an official 4.64 40 at the NFL Combine
It's a bit of a surprise given that tape review on the massive (6'7") rookie shows a more lumbering "Y" style tight end. He also appeared leaner than expected, weighing in at 264 lbs. Washington still profiles as an in-line player but his speed could be utilized by creative offensive coordinators. Drafted situation will be key for the big rookie. He's found as DLF's TE5 and the R33 overall.

Rookie tight end Darnell Washington has intriguing size
Washington is listed at 6'7" and 270 lbs. and teams will be watching his measurements closely. He's a classic Y tight end and will be sought for his in-line potential though he's still raw both as a blocker and receiver. He's heavy-legged in his routes and following the catch, but his sheer size as a receiver presents issues for coverage defenders. Size is keeping Washington's NFL Draft stock higher, potentially as a high second-round selection, but his dynasty stock continues to show a lack of enthusiasm for upside potential. Darnell Washington is listed as DLF's rookie TE5 and the R33 overall.
