Head coach Andy Reid said Clyde Edwards-Helaire looks "quick and strong" early in the the offseason
If only there was enough fire below the smoke to be something more than just a nice offseason report. Isiah Pacheco took control of the RB1 role last year as CEH continued to fade during the 2022 season. Still only 24 and in the final year of his rookie contract, there remains upside should the fallen asset reverse his three-year statistical slide and parlay his contract-year motivation into greater production. In a market seeing continued degradation of running back value, CEH, DLF's RB46, has a steep hill to climb to regain his past dynasty status and his best opportunity may come as a free agent in 2024. Should Pacheco falter in 2023, it's not out of the question Clyde Edwards-Helaire is there to capitalize.

The Chiefs are declining the fifth-year option on running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
This isn't much of a surprise after CEH has seen his carries drop from 181 in his rookie season to 119 in 2021and bottom out with just 71 last year. With just 1,622 career rushing yards and 17 touchdowns in three seasons, he just hasn't been effective at all, despite being a first round pick. With Isiah Pacheco emerging during the season, Edwards-Helaire was kept off the field to recover from what seemed to be a relatively minor injury. His stock has fallen as much as anyone's over the past few years and he currently comes in as the RB44. The Chiefs are saying all the right things about his future but his dynasty value is on the verge of extinction.

Some teams have Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire on their radar as a potential trade acquisition
There's been no indication the Chiefs are wanting or willing to trade their 2020 first-round bust, but they'd likely be willing to listen to offers. Edwards-Helaire came into the league with fanfare and upside comps but hasn't been able to remain healthy and, when healthy, hasn't shown consistent production. Turning 24 in April, he's still young enough to produce and a new situation would likely make all involved happy. Entering his contract year, Edwards-Helaire will have every motivation to produce but he's already lost his job to 7th-round 2022 rookie Isiah Pacheco and in a relatively strong running back draft class, he's on the outside looking in. He's found as DLF's RB41.

The Chiefs are not expected to exercise the fifth-year option on Clyde Edwards-Helaire and he could be traded
Edwards-Helaire has been a disappointment in his three years since being a first-round selection in 2020. It's a given the team will pass on exercising his fifth-year option and, now as a luxury in the backfield owned by 2022 rookie Isiah Pacheco, a trade of the soon-to-be 24-year-old would make sense. Oft-injured and generally inconsistent as a starter, his best option would be to remain in Kansas City with at least some potential to remain healthy in his 2023 contract year. He's listed as DLF's RB41 and has taken a massive tumble from his RB1 perch as a 2020 rookie.
