In The Athletic's "Injury Mailbag" Cam Akers was mentioned as a player "poised to have a solid 2023 season."
Coming off the Achilles injury suffered in 2021, Akers lacked his trademark agility when he did return but seemed to regain it in 2022. While reported to still be an elevated risk, the author suggested the risk level will fall to "low" as long as he escapes the preseason without reinjury. Head coach Sean McVay has already said Akers will be a focal point of the rushing attack and, as long as the mercurial coach holds to that declaration, 2023 possesses the promise we've been waiting for. Listed as DLF's RB26 and still only 23, there's intrigue here as a pre-training camp value-on acquisition but risk flags will continue to wave.

Cam Akers will be a "central figure" in the Rams offense according to Sean McVay
The dynasty community wants to believe but anything out of Sean McVay's mouth has proven to be far less than reliable. On the surface it makes sense as Akers was a glowing performer over his last three games of 2022, rushing for 345 yards and three touchdowns while adding six receptions. After regaining his starting job in the second half of the season, he scored six rushing touchdowns. To anyone on the outside looking in, Akers has proven himself as a capable starter and it finally, hopefully, appears that Akers will be the focal point as a runner to begin 2023. Turning only 24 in late June, Cam Akers is an intriguing risk-on buy-low option as DLF's RB27.

According to The Athletic, the belief is that the Rams would like to "build off" what Cam Akers was able to accomplish late in the 2022 season
It's music to the ears of dynasty coaches rostering Akers. Following a tumultuous year in which the back appeared to be on the way out, he returned to the team, the Rams summarily released Darrell Henderson, and Akers performed as most fantasy players expected he would to start the season. The 23-year-old runner scored six touchdowns over his final six games and finished the season with three 100-yard performances, while also chipping in with six receptions. Listed as DLF's RB31, it's obvious dynasty coaches remain stung by the mid-season drama, but enterprising coaches who took advantage of plummeting risk-on opportunity may be rewarded with a young upside runner who could turn in RB1 production in 2023. The fact remains that Sean McVay remains one of the NFL's most mercurial coaches and when it comes to running backs, any back in the team's room is risk-on.
