John Metchie III is a Canadian gridiron football wide receiver for the Houston Texans of the National Football League. He played college football at Alabama, winning the Jon Cornish Trophy twice prior to being drafted by the Texans in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

John Metchie is "on track" for training camp
Metchie has recovered (remission) from the Leukemia that ended is 2022 season but suffered a hamstring injury in OTAs. Metchie turns 23 in July and and is expected to compete for a starting role across from Nico Collins. A standout player from Alabama, he's a fluid and dynamic player who is on-par with fellow Alabama alum Jaylen Waddle. It may be a tall order for Metchie to match Waddle's NFL production, but the fact that he's returned to the field in full health already proves he's up to the challenge. Listed as DLF's WR75, John Metchie is a risk-on acquisition in dynasty but his current value remains palatable on the chance he meets his own high expectations for performance.

John Metchie is on the field during the Texans voluntary workouts.
Apparently fully recovered from a form of leukemia, Metchie was seen fully working out with the team, a promising development. The sophomore missed all of 2022 with the ailment but should have little trouble locking down a starting role for the rebuilding Texans, as long as he suffers no setbacks in his recovery. Found as DLF's WR69, he presents as an intriguing value addition to teams looking for upside receiver youth.

John Metchie will be involved in the Texans offseason program at some point
Metchie missed all of 2022 due to a combination of a torn ACL and then a acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) diagnosis. All reports have been positive and the receiver is expected to be back with the team for 2023. The Texans have overhauled their receiver room and Metchie would be no better than fourth on the depth chart behind Nico Collins, Robert Woods and recently signed Noah Brown. Even seeing the field is a huge win for the sophomore and the 22 year old has plenty of time to get his NFL career on track. He's found as DLF's WR70.

Texans 2022 rookie receiver John Metchie has a good chance to be ready for the team's offseason program
Metchie was a second round selection by the team during the 2022 NFL Draft but was diagnosed with leukemia shortly thereafter. He underwent treatment and has reportedly made "amazing" progress. Flying a bit below the dynasty radar, Metchie produced 1,142 yards and eight touchdowns across 96 receptions in his final year with the Crimson Tide and his return could provide a boost to a Texans team badly needing offensive consistency. There's every possibility second-year receiver is also reunited with 2023 rookie quarterback Bryce Young, with whom he finished his Alabama career. The Texans hold the second-overall pick in this year's rookie draft. Found as DLF's WR80, Metchie is an intriguing buy-low target on the chance he's completely healthy in 2023.
