The Jets believe fifth-round rookie running back Israel Abanikanda will have an immediate role on the offense.
The role could be a push to start should sophomore phenom Breece Hall not be ready to go following the 2022 ACL injury which ended his season. All arrows continue to Hall being ready for the regular season but a deep running back room could allow the team to slow-play his return, thus allowing Abanikanda to potentially function as the starter. With training camp yet to be underway, it's too difficult to connect the dots at this juncture, and third-year runner Michael Carter still has a role and is expected to bounce back from his own disappointing 2022. As for Abanikanda, he's found as DLF's RB73 and remains a dark horse to be a significant fantasy producer in 2023.

The New York Jets selected Pittsburgh running back Israel Abanikanda in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Izzy projects as the replacement for the departed James Robinson and could help Michael Carter out should Breece Hall not be ready for the start of the season. Dynasty managers were hoping for a different situation here for sure as there doesn't seem like an easy path for sustained touches with the Jets. Still, he should be a late round pick this Spring.

Pittsburgh running back Israel Abanikanda is listed as DLF's RB10
Abanikanda is only one of multiple intriguing running backs likely to be selected in the second round of dynasty rookie drafts. With NFL size (5'11/215), he put together his best season in his junior year, producing 1,431 yards and 20 touchdowns across 239 carries, good for a 6.0 ypc. average. While not elite in any one area, Abanikanda profiles well into the NFL with sufficient speed, tackle-breaking ability and, while not used extensively as a receiver, did secure 38 receptions over his three collegiate seasons. He should hear his name called in the middle rounds of the NFL Draft and is listed as DLF's RB10 and the R22 overall.
