Jaxon Smith-Njigba News

  • J. Smith-Njigba so impressive · Jun 19, 2023

Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith said of Jaxon Smith-Njigba: "He's so impressive"

JSN has looked exactly as advertised, has displayed the expected route-IQ and even flashed better than expected speed. The rookie will play from the slot between DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett and, though there could be competition for targets, he should be a producer in year-one. The NFL has been turning top-selected receivers into fantasy sensations over the past five years and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, DLF's WR17, remains a good bet to be 2023's iteration.

  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba as advertised · Jun 10, 2023

Rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba has been as advertised in practice

JSN has drawn rave reviews from coaches and players all offseason and continues to show expectations for his rookie season should be very high. He'll have significant competition for targets playing between DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett but, starting out of the slot and given a free release into his routes, he could be a material producer from day one. Pete Carroll has been effusive in his praise of the rookie saying: “He’s really a natural athlete. Gifted in his timing in and out of breaks, and his feel. He also has — which we saw in the workout at school — great change of direction in him. He’s got marvelous ability to get in and out of his turns. And his hands are just as natural as can be. He’s really a bright football player, too. It makes sense to him." JSN, DLF's WR17, will be one to watch when pads go on in training camp.

  • J. Smith-Njigba feels 100% · May 14, 2023

Jaxon Smith-Njigba says he feels "100 percent ready to go."

JSN has been a limited participant early as he slowly works his way back from the hamstring injury which severely limited his 2022 production. At this point, while his reps are being limited, all expectations are that he'll be 100% ready for camp. Until then, he's been on the field and getting mental reps while learning the offense. It's good news for the rookie as he seeks to make good on being the first receiver off the board during the 2023 NFL Draft. He's listed as DLF's rookie WR1 and is found as our WR18 overall.

  • J. Smith-Njigba has no ceiling · May 9, 2023

Jaxon Smith-Njigba says “there’s no ceiling for me” as a receiver

It appears JSN has limitless upside! The hyperbole is nice, as is the rookie's confidence, but it remains to be seen how targets will be distributed in an offense now sporting one of the best receive corps. in the NFL. The Seahawks made Smith-Njigba the top wideout selection in NFL Draft as he was widely expected to be. Found as DLF's WR18, JSN figures to play in the slot between DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, providing a valuable and rangy middle-of-the-field target.

  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba drafted by Seattle · Apr 28, 2023

The Seattle Seahawks selected wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba with the 20th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

As expected, Smith-Njigba was the first receiver selected. Many who know Ohio State football believe he's better than both Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson. If that's the case, this is a steal late in round one. There are legitimate questions about JSN and his soft-tissue injuries but if those are in the past, Smith-Njigba is going to create a monster duo with All-World receiver DK Metcalf when Tyler Lockett moves on. Smith-Njigba could be brought along slowly behind Lockett but the upside is real here. Unfortunately, so is the risk. Smith-Njigba is going to be a high-volatility, high-reward pick in the top five of rookie drafts this Spring.

  • J. Smith-Njigba getting all the love · Apr 24, 2023

In his pre-draft buzz report, Todd McShay says Jaxon Smith-Njigba is "getting all the love" as this year's rookie WR1

JSN has percolated to the top of draft boards at the position and is almost as much a lock as the first receiver off-the-board as Bijan Robinson is the first player off-the-board in dynasty rookie drafts. Questions remain about JSN's balky hamstring, though, by all indications, not enough to see teams fade the receiver for long. Could the Bears pull a surprise and reunite him with Justin Fields with their 9th-overall selection? It's not out of the question. We won't have to wait long for the answer. Jaxon Smith-Njigba is found as DLF's rookie WR1 and the R2 overall.

  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba falling? · Apr 17, 2023

According to ProFootballTalk, there is a level of "reticence" about selecting Jaxon Smith-Njigba highly due to his hamstring injury

With only 60 snaps played on his balky hamstring, it's fair to wonder if teams may be shying away just enough to cause a bit of a slide on draft day. Then again, we're firmly within the smoke-and-mirrors period prior to the NFL Draft where coaches, scouts and GMs will say whatever they need to in order to positively impact their draft. Although early, watch the the Bears at the ninth-overall selection for a chance to reunite Justin Fields with Smith-Njigba. JSN is found as DLF's Rookie WR1 and the #2 rookie overall.

  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba a fit with Green Bay? · Apr 7, 2023

In Matt Bowen's annual team fits article, he cites Green Bay as the best destination for Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

In what would be the greatest tale of irony, Bowen has the Packers selecting a receiver in round one. With Aaron Rodgers inevitably leaving, Green Bay would certainly be wise to add to their receiving corps for incumbent quarterback Jordan Love, though they've famously passed on them for years. Smith-Njigba would be a good start as he profiles as perhaps the best wideout in the class. If this was to come to fruition, it would be a decent landing spot for him as he, Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs would make for a formidable young trio. At this point, Smith-Njigba looks like a top three rookie pick.

  • Mock Draft: Jaxon Smith-Njigba · Mar 7, 2023

In Todd McShay's first mock draft following the NFL Combine, Jaxon Smith-Njigba is selected by the Ravens 22nd-overall

The Ravens keep taking shots at the position but have yet to find a productive WR1, though 2021 rookie Rashod Bateman still holds promise. JSN didn't run the 40 as he continues to recover from a balky hamstring which essentially cost him all of 2022, but turned in elite times in agility drills, proving to many that he should be this year's top rookie receiver selection. A selection by Baltimore will not sit well with most in dynasty but it would provide immediate starting potential. If he can remain healthy and off the trainer's table, Smith-Njigba has the potential to be an extremely productive receiver in the NFL. He's listed as DLF's WR1 showing that the community fully believes his lingering hamstring issue will not be a long term problem.

  • J. Smith-Njigba won't run · Mar 3, 2023

Jaxon Smith-Njigba (JSN) won't participate in the 40-yard dash during the NFL Combine.

He's punting until his pro day because he's not ready. JSN understands that speed is not his calling card but teams will be disappointed to not have the question answered. We are too. That said, JSN's game is far more as a route technician, intelligence, and defensive setup than on speed, and the biggest question surrounds the health of his balky hamstring, which essentially cost him all of 2022 following the production volcano that was 2021. A follow-on year to 2021 in 2022 would have assured Smith-Njigba of being the top-overall selection at the position during the NFL Draft but he now shares that potential with USC's Jordan Allison and TCU's Quentin Johnston. As is often the case, drafted situation will likely determine which of the rookie receivers are most coveted. JSN is found as DLF's WR1 and the R3 overall.
