Tyreek Hill under investigation
Tyreek Hill - WR, MIA

Tyreek Hill remains under investigation for potential assault and battery

Dynasty Analysis

There has been conflicting information emerging about the incident and the victim's desire to press charges. With or without charges, the NFL could still impose a suspension if it finds Hill violated the Personal Conduct Policy. It's a fluid situation that will likely have legs into training camp. Hill, 29, already made waves earlier this offseason when he announced he still plans on retiring following the completion of three more seasons to pursue other interests. Any attached suspension would further pressure Hills WR9 dynasty ranking.

Calvin Austin to be featured
Calvin Austin - WR, PIT

According to Najee Harris, sophomore receiver Calvin Austin is going to be "featured a lot."

Dynasty Analysis

Harris said that the team is planning on lining Austin up all across the formation to use his versatility to put pressure on defenses. Austin spent the entirety of the 2022 season on injured reserve but is fully healthy thus far in 2023. The diminutive (5'9/162) receiver is a quick-twitch athlete and will have to be the exception to be a consistent dynasty producer given his size. But with a somewhat notable receiving corps. and the dynamic to be used in multiple positions, the Steelers could maximize Austin's versatility to manufacture touches. The dynasty community remains dubious the 2022 fourth-round selection will make a jump in 2023 and he's listed as DLF's WR115.

Breece Hall could buck the trend
Breece Hall - RB, NYJ

Of the players to recently suffer ACL injuries, Breece Hall has the best chance to buck the trend related to his 2023 performance.

Dynasty Analysis

It's been well documented that players suffering ACL injuries do not return to pre-injury form in the year following an ACL injury. Hall's injury didn't involve any other knee structures and age remains on his side, providing hope that his post-injury performance won't suffer. Head coach Robert Saleh is on record saying that he's optimistic Hall will be back by week one of the regular season, but we can expect the team to be very conservative with their sophomore phenom, perhaps leading to less usage in early games. In either case, Hall's dynasty stock continues to shine and he remains DLF's RB2 showing confidence from the dynasty community that he'll return to form sooner rather than later.

Javonte Williams may not be 100%

In The Athletic's "Injury Mailbag," Javonte Williams may not be 100% by week one of the regular season.

Dynasty Analysis

It certainly stands to reason and while new head coach Sean Payton suggested there's optimism Williams won't start the season on the PUP list, it seems to be far more an even-odds race. Williams' ACL injury wasn't the garden variety, also involving damage to the LCL along with "other trauma to a series of other structures located in and around the knee." Those increased variables also make a timeline for return more difficult. If 100% healthy, Javonte Williams is one of the more exciting and capable runners in the NFL, but a combination of RBBC and injury continues to weigh on his dynasty ranking, currently our RB15. Dynasty coaches should remain patient and play the long game, as should the Broncos, keeping expectations low until the back is fully healthy.

J.K. Dobbins still high risk
JK Dobbins - RB, BAL

In The Athletic's "Injury Mailbag," J.K. Dobbins still carries a high injury risk label.

Dynasty Analysis

Dobbins is over a year removed from his most recent ACL injury but has struggled with various lower body injuries dating back to college. The article's author projects he'll see time in 12-15 games in 2023. The big back ran well in his late-2022 return but showed a material degradation in long speed, something Dobbins even mentioned himself. If healthy, he'll take the reins as the Ravens RB1 but will face competition from Gus Edwards. Listed as DLF's RB17, a healthy season coupled with less running from star quarterback Lamar Jackson could propel Dobbins' value higher, but any lost time due to injury will further pressure his ranking.

Cam Akers looks poised
Cam Akers - RB, LAR

In The Athletic's "Injury Mailbag" Cam Akers was mentioned as a player "poised to have a solid 2023 season."

Dynasty Analysis

Coming off the Achilles injury suffered in 2021, Akers lacked his trademark agility when he did return but seemed to regain it in 2022. While reported to still be an elevated risk, the author suggested the risk level will fall to "low" as long as he escapes the preseason without reinjury. Head coach Sean McVay has already said Akers will be a focal point of the rushing attack and, as long as the mercurial coach holds to that declaration, 2023 possesses the promise we've been waiting for. Listed as DLF's RB26 and still only 23, there's intrigue here as a pre-training camp value-on acquisition but risk flags will continue to wave.

Isaiah Spiller has a chance
Isaiah Spiller - RB, LAC

The Chargers are still high on second-year running back Isaiah Spiller

Dynasty Analysis

The team has a gaping hole in the backup role behind starter Austin Ekeler. Joshua Kelley continues to show promise but has struggled with injury and Spiller, still only 21, is still in the team's plans. Spiller only saw 18 carries in 2022 and failed to impress with a dismal 2.3 ypc. average. He also reeled in three receptions. Considered one of the top backs available in the 2022 NFL Draft, Spiller's draft stock slid as his athletic metrics were less than desired, ultimately leading to his slide to the fourth round. Still young and with obvious depth chart upside, Spiller is listed as DLF's RB61 and can be stashed in deep roster formats on the chance he shows well in training camp.

Kayshon Boutte outplayed

Kayshon Boutte was outplayed in spring practices and is projected to not make the Patriots 53-man roster.

Dynasty Analysis

Boutte has been a popular late-round sleeper selection in dynasty rookie drafts but it appears he's got work to do. It's been a stellar slide for the rookie once projected to be a first round prospect. Instead, Covid, poor quarterback play and lack of production in his time at LSU sapped Boutte's draft stock, and it appears he's now on the fast track toward receiving his first release. If released, he's certain to find a new situation or be signed back to the practice squad in hopes of further development. Listed as DLF's WR96, look for Kayshon Boutte's ranking to fall further in the coming weeks.

Michael Carter role could shrink
Michael Carter - RB, NYJ

While Michael Carter will initially have a role in the Jets running back rotation, it could shrink as the regular season progresses.

Dynasty Analysis

Once Breece Hall is fully healthy, he's the unquestioned starter though the team is certain to take it slow in bringing him back into the fold, potentially leading to more touches for Carter. Additionally, the team selected Israel Abanikanda, an upside rookie back, during the 2023 NFL Draft, further muddying the depth chart. Carter still possesses upside receiving skills, but his 2022 average of 3.5 ypc. fails to inspire as anything more. Once a desired running back prospect, Carter, now found as DLF's RB46, likely needs a new situation to recapture dynasty value.

Denzel Mims faces battle
Denzel Mims - WR, NYJ

Denzel Mims faces an uphill battle to make the Jets final roster

Dynasty Analysis

It's not a hard call to make when looking at the Jets receiver room, headlined by Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, Mecole Hardman, Corey Davis and Aaron Rodgers favorite Randall Cobb. The fourth-year receiver has done just enough to hang around and is now in a contract year, a release possibly giving the big receiver a chance with a new team. In either case, there's little reason to roster Mims, DLF's WR52.

Sony Michel signs with Rams
Sony Michel - RB, LAR

The Rams have signed Sony Michel to a one-year contract

Dynasty Analysis

Now 28, it will be Michel's second stint with the Rams who may be looking for a more notable backup to starter Cam Akers. Even should Michel make the Rams' 53-man roster, he doesn't project to be an impact player any longer in any format. He remains unranked on DLF's running back rankings.

Jordan Addison displays versatility
Jordan Addison - WR, MIN

Jordan Addison is expected to play all across the offensive formation as a rookie

Dynasty Analysis

Addison didn't have the spring other rookie receivers had due to a minor injury but he should be ready to go for training camp. Head coach Kevin O'Connell said the rookie has been "phenomenal" in meetings and is asking the right questions. While not the same thing as on-field performance, Addison is quickly expected to produce as a starter in the Vikings expanded passing attack and should be a year-one performer. Similarly undersized to fellow rookie Zay Flowers, concerns do remain about his ability to remain healthy. That said, there's no questioning his fluidity as a route-runner or potential as DLF's WR24.

Zay Flowers has been impressive
Zay Flowers - WR, BAL

Zay Flowers has been impressive with his ability to consistently get open

Dynasty Analysis

Of the six receivers selected in the first round over the Ravens history, none have reportedly shown Flowers' level of route-running and ability to get open as a rookie. Other terms used by coaches and teammates have been shifty, very fast and explosive. Flowers is one of three tightly-grouped rookie receivers following Jaxon Smith-Njigba in dynasty rookie drafts with some fearful of his Baltimore landing spot. There's little question the undersized prospect has the dynamic to be a day-one starter, but how he fares when compared to 2023's other rookie receivers remains to be seen. He's listed as DLF's WR28 showing significant expectation is attached.

Quentin Johnston has tremendous range

Coaches and players have been effusive in their praise of rookie receiver Quentin Johnston, offensive coordinator Kellen Moore saying: "His range is really, really tremendous."

Dynasty Analysis

Safety Derwin James also said: "He's that guy. Him being able to get open, him being able to have the confidence to be able to go through his drills and be able to -- every catch, he's finishing his runs." Johnston has been checking all the boxes in his short time with the Chargers, and continues to present as a high-ceiling player who still needs time to develop as a route runner. He's listed as DLF's WR27 showing that the dynasty community has every expectation he'll be a productive fantasy producer sooner rather than later.

J. Smith-Njigba so impressive

Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith said of Jaxon Smith-Njigba: "He's so impressive"

Dynasty Analysis

JSN has looked exactly as advertised, has displayed the expected route-IQ and even flashed better than expected speed. The rookie will play from the slot between DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett and, though there could be competition for targets, he should be a producer in year-one. The NFL has been turning top-selected receivers into fantasy sensations over the past five years and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, DLF's WR17, remains a good bet to be 2023's iteration.

Jahmyr Gibbs does special things
Jahmyr Gibbs - RB, DET

Lions quarterback Jared Goff said rookie Jahmyr Gibbs "can do some special things with the ball in his hands."

Dynasty Analysis

It's notable that some teams reportedly had Gibbs ranked over Bijan Robinson during the NFL Draft and Lions proved that may have been the case with a high selection (12th-overall). Following his selection, the team traded DeAndre Swift, immediately elevating Gibbs to the starting lineup before the draft was complete. He'll still share snaps with David Montgomery but, similar to top rookie running back selection Bijan Robinson, his inclusion in the passing attack should greatly increase his fantasy production in PPR formats. Jahmyr Gibbs is found as DLF's RB7, a potentially lofty valuation for a rookie yet to take a regular-season snap.

C.J. Stroud rarely off target
CJ Stroud - QB, HOU

C.J. Stroud has been rarely off target and his ball placement has stood out in spring practices

Dynasty Analysis

All reports of Stroud's progress, similar to that of Bryce Young, have been very positive. Stroud has yet to run exclusively as the starter but it won't be long and the Texans are fully expected to hand over the reins to their offense. Stroud even received praise for veteran Case Keenum who said the rookie looks like a veteran. The pads aren't on yet and rookie quarterbacks are difficult to project for the long term, but C.J. Stroud, DLF's QB15, possesses the accuracy and size to be an impact player at the position.

Velus Jones fighting for spot
Velus Jones - WR, CHI

Second-year receiver Velus Jones doesn't project to get many reps at receiver in 2023 and may be on the roster bubble

Dynasty Analysis

He's fighting for a roster spot with veteran Dante Pettis. Jones does possess upside dynamic but it's going to take a big shakeup on the depth chart for either to factor much on game day, and it's likely one of the two won't make the roster. A third-round selection in 2022, Jones may be favored solely due to youth and upside but will take patience to hold in dynasty formats. He remains unranked on DLF's receiver rankings.

Bijan Robinson in a committee
Bijan Robinson - RB, ATL

Bijan Robinson will be moved around the formation with Cordarrelle Patterson, and both will receive time as rushers along with second-year back Tyler Allgeier

Dynasty Analysis

It's anyone's guess where the bulk of Robinson's production will stem from, but he's too good to keep off the field. Second-year back Tyler Allgeier was impressive as a rookie, rushing for 1,035 yards with a 4.9 ypc. average. The team also still rosters Patterson who will share time with Robinson in various spots across the formation, including the backfield. It's shaping up to be another big RBBC situation with dynasty coaches hoping Robinson's prospects fair much better than top-selected backs over the past four years. Bijan Robinson remains securely positioned as DLF's RB1 and should be a big producer in PPR formats.

Tyler Allgeier can't be ignored
Tyler Allgeier - RB, ATL

Tyler Allgeier has "too much good game tape to ignore."

Dynasty Analysis

One of the 2023 story lines continues to be the role of Bijan Robinson in a league continuing to devalue the position. Robinson remains, unquestionably, the top overall dynasty prospects in rookie drafts, but Tyler Allgeier was a 1,000-yard rusher as a rookie and is working hard this spring to become an all-around back. Robinson will be moved around the formation and a recent Sports Illustrated piece suggested Allgeier could even out-produce Robinson on the ground. Hard to imagine but not out of the question. Recently turned 23, Allgeier, DLF's RB48, experienced a massive slide in dynasty value following the Falcons' selection of Robinson, and now rests near a career-low ADP (155). Enterprising dynasty owners should continue to watch Allgeier's dynasty value for a potential buy-low acquisition opportunity for potential future value.
