Decent points for both sides. But I feel like it’s not right to say that trey Lance doesn’t have a future on the team. I know about the 49ers comments regarding purdy being the incumbent starter, but they pretty much have to say that after the team won with him. Lance hasn’t been given a fair run yet at solid play time, and I have to imagine they need to get a fair look, and would probably prefer for their investment in him to work out. Purdy was good, but it was really the team around him that brought them deep into the playoffs, not the other way around. I think we all need to remember that.

I’m personally of the opinion that Purdy will come back with an even weaker arm and – because he played just enough – far more game tape on him, which can’t be good because he’s not really THAT talented. Sometimes when you’re the last pick of the draft there’s a reason. Nothing against the kid – and that’s not to say Lance is going to be a HOFer here, either – but everyone jumped on board the Purdy train and ignored everything we’ve known to be historically true about a situation like this. I think regression to the mean is coming, unfortunately.
