DeVante Parker gets new contract

DeVante Parker and the Patriots reached an agreement on a new three-year contract worth up to $33M

Dynasty Analysis

It's a bit of a surprise and it would seem that also means the team may be out of the race to sign DeAndre Hopkins. Now 30, Parker appeared in 13 games for New England in 2022, compiling a 31/539/3 line, making his $33M deal eye-popping in value. He's locked in as the Patriots WR1 for 2023 and beyond, but unless something drastic changes in the year ahead, it's hard to see the Veteran, DLF's WR94, living up to his new contract in the way of production.

Kyle Pitts a top-ten TE
Kyle Pitts - TE, ATL

Kyle Pitts ranked 10th-overall in a recent article listing the top-ten tight ends in the NFL

Dynasty Analysis

Pitts has yet to live up to the ridiculously high expectations heaped atop him as a rookie in 2021. That said, he did produce 1,000 yards in his rookie season but only managed a single touchdown while Matt Ryan was under center. The wheels came off in 2022 as the team moved on from Ryan and Pitts suffered a season ending injury, only managing 356 yards on 28 receptions, but scored two touchdowns. Now in his third year, fully healthy, and with second-year quarterback Desmond Ridder at the helm, Pitts is well positioned to have his breakout season. Should Ridder not be the answer beyond 2023, however, a new rookie quarterback could be ushered in, impacting PItts once again. Turning 23 in October, there's plenty of time for the upside tight end to find his rhythm and develop into one of the leagues top players at the position, but should he falter again in 2023, erosion in his DLF TE2 ranking will likely follow.

Dalton Schultz a top-ten TE
Dalton Schultz - TE, HOU

Dalton Schultz was ranked 9th-overall in a recent article listing the top-ten tight ends in the NFL

Dynasty Analysis

Schultz jumped from Dallas to Houston this offseason, a move which often leads to a significant drop in production. The Cowboys scheme is a favorable one for the position while the Texans' offense is in full rebuild mode with rookie C.J. Stroud at the helm. Arguably, Schultz could be the team's leader in targets in 2023 with unproven Nico Collins and veteran Robert Woods as starting options at receiver. Forecasting Schultz as a top-ten player at the position in talent makes sense, but forecasting top-ten production is a more difficult exercise. He's listed as DLF's TE13.

Sam LaPorta will be fantastic
Sam LaPorta - TE, DET

According to George Kittle: "[Sam] LaPorta is going to be fantastic."

Dynasty Analysis

Arguably, no rookie tight end has received more positive press emerging from spring practices than LaPorta, who should be an immediate contributor for the Lions. The departure of T.J. Hockenson left a huge hole in the offense, one of the best in the NFL for the position, but it appears the team has found a suitable replacement. Rookie tight ends have a notoriously long integration period but with little standing in his way for immediate production, and Jared Goff experienced at getting the ball to the position, LaPorta continues to trend higher in dynasty rookie drafts as the TE3 behind Dalton Kincaid and Michael Mayer. Kittle was effusive in his praise of the rookie and it will be no surprise if DLF's TE16 ends up pacing the position in 2023.

Van Jefferson the X-Factor
Van Jefferson - WR, LAR

Van Jefferson is the Rams WR2 in 2023 and has been dubbed the team's "X-Factor"

Dynasty Analysis

Jefferson will take over as the top option behind Cooper Kupp following the failed Allen Robinson experiment. The 2020 second-round selection only appeared in 11 games in 2022 following knee surgery, but the table is set. Jefferson's role is unquestioned and he'll need to be productive to remove double-team pressure off of Kupp, but he's hardly proven. Soon-to-be 27, Jefferson's best season came in 2021 when he compiled a 50/802/6 line during the team's Super Bowl campaign. Found as DLF's WR82, it's obvious the dynasty community has little confidence in Van Jefferson's ability to be a material producer, but that may also provide a level of buy-low, sleeper potential.

Dalvin Cook receives an offer
Dalvin Cook - RB, MIN

The Dolphins have made Dalvin Cook a contract offer

Dynasty Analysis

Recent word has emerged that Cook has received multiple contract offers but this most recent news has been most anticipated, and most desired. The fit with the Dolphins is obvious though they would possess a very deep running back room. Regardless of that room, Cook would easily slide in as the RB1 in the offense, though is certain to lose passing down work to a combination of Devon Achane and Raheem Mostert. Expect Cook to make his decision prior to the opening of training camp. He's listed as DLF's RB25.

Trey Lance improving
Trey Lance - QB, SF

According to 49ers tight end George Kittle, quarterback Trey Lance "took steps forward in the OTAs"

Dynasty Analysis

It doesn't ring as much of an endorsement and Kittle referenced improvement over earlier struggles. Lance remains in a three-way competition for the starting role though 2023 phenom Brock Purdy is clearly the leader in the locker room and fully expected to the starter if/when healthy. Most recent reports also suggest newcomer Sam Darnold is in position to be the starter should Purdy miss time, an outcome that would render Lance the team's QB3. Also said to have no current trade market, it's fair to wonder what Trey Lance's future is with the team. He's found as DLF's QB22 and his ADP (178) rests near a career-low.

Brandon Aiyuk the best player
Brandon Aiyuk - WR, SF

Brandon Aiyuk continued his momentum all spring and was the 49ers best player on the field

Dynasty Analysis

Aiyuk even received praise from Deebo Samuel who said: "you can't cover that boy in a phone booth." Earlier this spring, cornerback teammate Deommodor Lenoir suggested Aiyuk will be a "top five" receiver in 2023. There's little question the fourth-year receiver is poised to have a big year in 2024, following his first 1,000-yard campaign in 2023 but the 49ers will need to have quarterback consistency for that to occur and, at this juncture, it remains unclear if 2023 riser Brock Purdy will be healthy enough to be under-center in week one. Still found as a WR3 on DLF's receiver rankings, there's potential value-on upside to his current WR27 status.

Michael Wilson a standout
Michael Wilson - WR, ARI

Rookie receiver Michael Wilson was a standout for the Cardinals during spring practices

Dynasty Analysis

Wilson was trending higher before the 2023 NFL Draft and heard his name called in the third round by the receiver-needy team. The rookie reportedly impressed with his route-running and was quick to take advantage of DeAndre Hopkins' absence. It's unclear at this juncture what role Wilson could have, but with the Cardinals an early favorite to be the worst team in the league, there's every possibility the rookie sees significant snaps in his first year. Michael Wilson is listed as DLF's WR95.

Romeo Doubs the go-to guy
Romeo Doubs - WR, GB

Romeo Doubs has been Jordan Love's "go-to guy" this offseason.

Dynasty Analysis

Doubs made hay during 2022's preseason as Love's top target and the two are set to take the connection into the 2023 regular season. While Doubs was trending well last year, an ankle injury all but ended his momentum and fellow rookie Christian Watson eventually returned to full health, stealing the show down the stretch for the Packers. With Love now the unquestioned starter for the team, Doubs and Watson will have a chance to become the league's next young dynamic-duo at the position. A lot needs to happen for that to occur, but now listed as DLF's WR64, Romeo Doubs is positioned as a very intriguing value-on acquisition target for enterprising dynasty coaches.

Darren Waller a standout
Darren Waller - TE, NYG

Darren Waller has been fully healthy this offseason and "stood out because of his size and explosiveness."

Dynasty Analysis

It didn't take long for Waller to elicit praise with his new team and he's a fair bet to lead the Giants in targets in 2023. Now 30, and turning 31 in September, Waller is no longer a spring chicken and he'll try to recapture the magic of his 2020 campaign when he produced a 107/1,196/9 stat line while with the Raiders. Injury history looms large with the upside tight end and he's only appeared in 20 games over the past two seasons. If Waller, DLF's TE10, can remain off the trainer's table in 2023, he could push for his third 1,000-yard campaign.

Treylon Burks a standout
Treylon Burks - WR, TEN

Treylon Burks has a "different swagger" in 2023 and reported to camp "noticeably leaner."

Dynasty Analysis

By all accounts, Burks had a disappointing rookie season due to diagnosed asthma and poor conditioning. He started to pop late in the season and appears primed for a second-year jump. The Titans badly need production from the sophomore as they traded away top target A.J. Brown during the 2022 NFL Draft. Now found as DLF's WR22, there's an opportunity for non-risk averse dynasty coaches to acquire the 23-year-old at an uninflated value, a situation which may change when camp opens in July. If Burks is able to maintain his offseason momentum, he's a fair bet to put together a breakout campaign in 2023.

Marquise Goodwin dominated

Marquise Goodwin "dominated" during the Browns minicamp sessions

Dynasty Analysis

Goodwin, now 32, should have a role out of the gate for the Browns as the team looks for a legitimate deep target. Goodwin has been so good this offseason, it has been suggested that he'll push the younger Anthony Scwhartz off the roster in training camp. Despite his speed, Goodwin has never been more than a fringe producer in dynasty and that is unlikely to change now. He remains unranked on DLF's receiver rankings and will remain so unless lightning strikes in 2023.

Nelson Agholor a standout
Nelson Agholor - WR, BAL

Ravens receiver Nelson Agholor has been a standout in his first offseason with the team.

Dynasty Analysis

Agholor is, yet again, with a new team after a short stint with the Patriots. Recently-turned 30, the veteran presence has received praise from Lamar Jackson and the head coach John Harbaugh. The preseason notes are nice but it won't be enough to resurrect his dynasty prospects, especially now in an offense that continues to struggle in the passing game. Agholor has had periods of productivity in the past but he's no longer on the dynasty radar and is not ranked on DLF's receiver rankings.

Devon Achane a standout
Devon Achane - RB, MIA

Devon Achane was one of the Dolphins more explosive players in camp

Dynasty Analysis

It's a continuation of the narrative and it's well known what Achane brings to the table. At the same time, the Dolphins have a full running back depth chart and it could take time before a more prominent role is realized. If not for his "undersized" (5'9/185) flag, the third-round 2023 NFL Draft selection would be found much higher than his current DLF RB33 ranking. Until proven otherwise, Achane's primary upside will come in PPR formats where his usage out of the backfield as a receiver could produce more big plays. Devon Achane has been a consistent late-first selection in dynasty rookie drafts.

Alexander Mattison is ready

Alexander Mattison is "going above and beyond this offseason to ensure he's ready for a featured role."

Dynasty Analysis

Mattison continues to lag in the rankings, currently found as DLF's RB27 as Minnesota's perceived new RB1. The recently-turned 25-year-old inherited the starting role after Dalvin Cook was released earlier this month, but there appears to be concern within the dynasty community that Mattison may not be up to the challenge of retaining the new role. These concerns may have merit as the fifth-year back has averaged less than 3.8 ypc. in limited touches over the past two seasons. As it stands, Mattison is a potential three-down player able to produce as a rusher and receiver but will need prove he can be productive if he is going to hold off the team's youth options of Ty Chandler and DeWayne McBride.

Anthony Schwartz in danger

Browns receiver Anthony Schwartz is in danger of not making the 53-man roster

Dynasty Analysis

He's locked into a battle with sophomore David Bell and a recent report suggests Schwartz is on the outside looking in. The team signed veteran deep threat Marquise Goodwin during the offseason, a player with more experience and legitimate track speed, potentially making Schwartz an unneeded luxury. It's a competition that will play out in training camp, but whether Schwartz does, or does not, make the team, it likely won't changed his unranked status on DLF's receiver rankings.

David Bell will make the roster
David Bell - WR, CLE

David Bell is "still in great standing with the club and will make the 53-man roster."

Dynasty Analysis

The report is in conflict with an earlier offseason news piece which had Bell in danger of being cut. It exemplifies the uncertainty and shifting landscape that plays out at the bottom of depth charts during the offseason. Should Bell make the team, it likely spells the end of the Anthony Schwartz experiment. It will be a battle to watch as training camp gets underway. David Bell is found as DLF's WR96.

Justyn Ross could be cut
Justyn Ross - WR, KC

In a recent roster projection, second-year receiver Justyn Ross was left off the final roster.

Dynasty Analysis

It's noteworthy in that arguably no Chiefs receiver has received more offseason praise than Ross, including from Patrick Mahomes who opined that the sophomore's talent is "through the roof." Should Ross be left off the final roster, it will go a long way toward exemplifying why offseason puff pieces should be taken with a grain of salt. That said, when looking at the team's receiver room consisting of Kadarius Toney, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Skyy Moore, Justin Watson, Richie James and Rashee Rice, Ross would seem to be on the outside looking in. It's unlikely the team would keep more than six receivers and both Watson and James are likely to hold an edge due to their veteran standing. In any case, Ross will get a chance to continue his ascent when training camp opens. He's found as DLF's WR120 showing that there's little confidence he'll be an impact player in the near term.

Michael Mayer projected to start
Michael Mayer - TE, LV

Michael Mayer is projected to be a starter for the Raiders in 2023, but veteran Austin Hooper could begin the season as the top option

Dynasty Analysis

Mayer lost ground during the NFL evaluation process due to somewhat pedestrian athletic scores, but remains a popular selection as the rookie TE2 behind Dalton Kincaid (BUF). Arguably, the fit for Mayer in Josh McDaniels' offense is even more noteworthy than Kincaid's should he take on the same role of retired Rob Gronkowski while with the Patriots. While Austin Hooper is an established veteran who has displayed ability in the recent past, as mentioned in the article penned by Vic Tafur: "If Mayer isn't getting most of the snaps before long, something went wrong." He remains a fringe round-one selection in dynasty rookie drafts and is found as DLF's TE15 overall.
