C.J. Stroud has been rarely off target and his ball placement has stood out in spring practices
All reports of Stroud's progress, similar to that of Bryce Young, have been very positive. Stroud has yet to run exclusively as the starter but it won't be long and the Texans are fully expected to hand over the reins to their offense. Stroud even received praise for veteran Case Keenum who said the rookie looks like a veteran. The pads aren't on yet and rookie quarterbacks are difficult to project for the long term, but C.J. Stroud, DLF's QB15, possesses the accuracy and size to be an impact player at the position.

Texans quarterback coach Jerrod Johnson said C.J Stroud is "already way, way ahead of pace"
The quote was specifically related to Stroud's footwork and timing though the rookie was also lauded for his football IQ and his desire to improve. The 2023 rookie quarterback was as interesting as any previous year with three top names all offering a different strengths, traits and profile. Stroud is prototypically sized, elite in ball placement and accuracy, and is certain to be under center come week one of the regular season. Found as DLF's QB15, he'll be a rookie to watch when training camps officially open.

The Houston Texans selected Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud with the second overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
The Texans reportedly went back and forth throughout the draft process, but ended up settling on Stroud with the second overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. It's likely a wise move as Stroud comes into the league with an NFL-ready arm and no questions about his accuracy. Houston has a long way to go in order to be relevant but Stroud looks like a franchise quarterback they can build around and gives them the permanent replacement for Deshaun Watson. Stroud should be a top five Superflex rookie and a second rounder in 1Q leagues this Spring.

Recent betting odds show C.J. Stroud could be selected after Will Levis during next week's NFL Draft
Levis is now projected to be the second quarterback off-the-board after Bryce Young and, surprisingly, ahead of Stroud. Reports continue to surface that the Colts desire Levis which the Texans could be using to increase trade potential. It's also a growing consideration that the Texans could bypass a quarterback selection altogether with their second-overall selection should they keep it. In any case, the four top rookie quarterbacks should be off the board no later than the seventh-overall selection currently held by the Raiders, but stranger things have happened. C.J. Stroud as DLF's QB2.

In Bucky Brooks' latest mock draft, C.J. Stroud is the first-overall selection by the Panthers
Brooks' mock draft isn't particularly noteworthy other than Stroud's placement at the top is a continuation of the recent narrative. While the Panthers have yet to confirm Stroud will be the top selection, it's widely believed to be so and nearly every NFL pundit mock draft is confirming the fact. Bryce Young may have hurt his draft stock by not performing during the NFL Combine while Stroud went on to have, arguably, the strongest showing ever at the position. Stroud is now DLF's rookie QB1 in all formats.

In Todd McShay's first mock draft following the NFL Combine, C.J. Stroud is selected second-overall to the Texans
The Texans could choose to move up to first overall but may be happy to simply stick at 1.02 and take whichever quarterback falls to them. Stroud put on a show at the Combine, some calling it the best combine performance ever at the position and, by all accounts, is as NFL-ready as a rookie can be. The Texans' situation is not nearly as good as the Colts but it would nearly assure selecting dynasty coaches of the rookie being under center on day one. Stroud has closed the gap to Bryce Young but still remains DLF's rookie QB2.

C.J. Stroud's stock is rising after his impressive combine performance
While fellow rookie Anthony Richardson stole the show, Stroud not-so-quietly put together his own fine showing in throwing drills, displaying good arm strength, smooth and fluid passing mechanics, and his signature accuracy. Measuring in at 6'3/214 lbs., Stroud doesn't possess the size concerns of Bryce Young and it's not out of the question Stroud becomes the top-overall passer taken in NFL Draft. He's found as DLF's QB2 and the R3 overall in superflex.

All were as expected and there's no surprise here. Much more emphasis will be placed on Stroud's speed and agility metrics as he looks to stave off detractors who question the quarterback's ability to be effective off-script and willingness to use his mobility to become a dynamic presence under center. Stroud is found as DLF's rookie QB2 and is likely to remain in that position unless the fervor and upside of Anthony Richardson reach epic proportions.

The Texans famously hurt themselves by winning late and losing out on the first-overall selection. Stroud project well to the NFL though carries off-script concerns due to less pocket poise than fellow rookie Bryce Young. It may be nitpicking as Stroud also possesses a live arm, laser precision passing and enough mobility to a threat if desired. The bigger issue surrounds just what the team will do to add offensive weapons for an incoming rookie quarterback to help fast-track early-career success. Stroud is found as DLF's QB2 and the R3 overall in superflex formats.

C.J. Stroud was the first quarterback selected in Mel Kiper's most recent mock draft
It's hard to know whether Kiper is going for shock value here or if, indeed, he believes Stroud possesses the greatest chance to be the first quarterback off the board. To wit, he said in his write-up: "Houston still has several needs, but it should start with Stroud. I have Stroud just barely behind Will Levis (Kentucky) and Bryce Young (Alabama) in my rankings, but it's going to be a close race through April.There are likely four quarterbacks who will be selected in the first half of the 2023 NFL Draft and each of them possesses different characteristics depending on what the prospective team is seeking. Stroud presents as an extremely accurate, strong-armed, pocket passer who has enough mobility to be intriguing. The criticism relates to his off-schedule ability and lack of perceived desire to use his mobility consistently. It's no secret the Texans will use their second-overall selection on one of the top passers in this year's draft though Alabama's Bryce Young is still considered the top-overall prospect. C.J. Stroud is found as DLF's rookie QB2 and the R18 overall.

comment Houston is not a sexy landing spot but they have attained pieces of the San Francisco/Shanahan tree to operate their offense. It should bode well for Stroud, who is the best in this class at operating from the pocket. Add in underrated rushing ability, and Stroud should become a solid dynasty asset. |
